CORPORAL WILLIAM LESLIE CHARLES,

12th London Regiment (Rangers)

Died 9th April 1917 aged 18

 

Killed on Easter Monday, Leslie Charles was shot through the heart by a machine gun bullet in the British advance from Arras. Although only 18 when he fell he had won high regard for his ability and Christian character. He was the son of Mr and Mrs W E Charles of 95 Erskine Hill and is buried at London Cemetery, Neuville-Vitasse. Once again, being remembered in a Lutyens cemetery in France and two Lutyens churches in England, St Jude’s and the Free Church.
